In 2015, Gan Yizhe, who was still in his senior year at Peking University, participated in the college entrepreneurship project competition held by Gao Lian Capital. He then went to Jingdong Entrepreneurship Training Camp from Gao Leng to receive Liu Qiangdong's entrepreneurial guidance with 6 other people.
With theoretical support, in July 2016, Gan Yizhe started his first entrepreneurial project-Koala Reading, and became the early founder of this smart education company.
Less than a year later, Gan Yizhe chose to quit, and in July 2017, he founded the urban shared accommodation space brand Qianyu Islands. The company received Zhen Fund, Huachuang Capital, Zhixin Capital, Zero One within one month of establishment. The venture capital invested 10 million yuan in angel round investment, and recently completed tens of millions of RMB A round of financing led by Gao Rong Capital and Meihua Angel.
Transforming the traditional accommodation industry
"Qianyu Islands can be understood as a standardized bed and breakfast, or a minimally operated hotel." Gan Yizhe told Chuangyebang.
Statistics show that mid-range hotels in China account for 8.1%, while the corresponding demand exceeds 40%. However, the scale and volume of shared accommodation in China's entire accommodation industry is not large, with a penetration rate of less than 1%, and data in developed countries in Europe and the United States exceeding 25%.
Although the Chinese market space is large enough, the time window is still urgent. In Gan Yizhe's view, who can achieve standardization and large-scale replication of products, the greater the chance of who wins the competition. Based on this situation, Gan Yizhe expressed the hope that he could use the sharing economy to transform the hotel stock market and standardize non-standard homestays.
On the other hand, since 2013, traditional hotels have also begun to work collectively on mid-range hotels, and shared accommodation platforms such as Airbnb, Tujia, Luke, and Xiaozhu short-term rentals that also value experiential economy and lifestyle creation have also responded. .
Gan Yizhe participated in Huachuang annual meeting and shared
But Gan Yizhe said that Qianyu Islands does something different from them. "We mainly do the supply chain."
According to Gan Yizhe, China's current travel accommodation industry has a distorted supply structure, and high-quality properties are occupied by a large number of low-end and mid-range accommodation supply. Supply upgrades lag far behind consumption upgrades.
In the current Chinese market, the occupancy rate of 86% of mid- and low-end hotels is only 46%, which means that a large number of rooms are vacant. Qianyu Island is cutting into a large number of middle- and low-end hotels and apartments that are scattered and idle, pushing the supply upgrade from the supply side and revitalizing the sunk cost of low-end hotels or apartments.
